BizTalk 2006 Recipes – Good book!

At the SOA & BP Conference in Redmond, hospital October last year, I already saw this book in the Apress booth. This week I received a complimentary copy from one of my friends at Microsoft: “BizTalk 2006 Recipes – A Problem-Solution Approach”. I usually don’t read books about software products, because most of the times I get truly disappointed (I’m more of a hands-on guy anyway). The last disappointment being “BizTalk Server 2004 Unleashed”: you just cannot explain a thing like the BizTalk Mapper in 26 pages…

But this time it’s different. This book really explains how you should solve day-to-day problems and why you should actually do it like they say. It has 100 pages on the Mapper only! And it all makes perfect sense.

I love it!

ISBN: 1-59059-711-7

Now, don’t I have any complaints? Yes, of course. The biggest one being that there is nothing on EDI. That was also missing in the 2004 book (although I volunteered for writing that chapter back then). I guess I could write a whole book on B2B/EDI with BizTalk. If I get more than, let’s say, 100 comments on this post suggesting that I should I’d probably have to do it.

I would definitely buy and read a EDI/BizTalk book, especially from an expert like you!

We desperately need a book on BizTalk EDI. We used BizTalk 2002 to do a lot of integration work with EDI. Now when we wanted to upgrade to BizTalk 2006, we can’t find any reference material.

I sure hope you get more than 100 comments on this one. I agree with Srikanth, we desperately need a book on BizTalk EDI. I am new to BizTalk and as far as Schemas, Maps and Orchestrations concerned, BizTalk 2006 Recipes is a gold mine of great advice. However there is nothing on EDI and I have trouble finding any references that make sense.
